Webex AI Agents and RoomOS 27: What Mid-Market IT Teams Should Govern Before Agents Join the Meeting

TL;DR: At WebexOne on October 7, Cisco announced AI agents that join Webex spaces, meetings, and calls and carry out multi-step work, plus RoomOS 27 for meeting rooms. Agent features are still arriving in stages, so mid-market IT teams have time to decide what agents may access, who approves sensitive actions, and how activity is logged before anything goes live. INVITE, a Cisco partner, helps IT Directors and VPs of IT set those rules first.

What did Cisco announce for Webex AI agents?

Cisco announced that AI agents can be invited into Webex spaces, meetings, and calls, where they work from shared team context to complete multi-step tasks. One example: an analytics agent pulls usage statistics when mentioned, and a presentation agent then updates a deck with the new figures. Cisco also described Dialog, a layer that keeps customer context across service interactions, and said Claude Managed Agents and OpenAI integrations are planned for Webex. Several pieces are not available yet, so treat the announcement as a roadmap, not a rollout.

What is RoomOS 27 and when does it arrive?

RoomOS 27 is the next version of the operating system on Cisco meeting room devices. Cisco expects it in November 2026, and it adds native Google Meet support alongside Webex, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom, an AI assistant that responds in natural language, and a Director Agent that coordinates cameras, microphones, and audio. For IT teams that manage a mixed meeting platform environment, one room device that works across four platforms simplifies support.

When will the agent features be available?

Cisco has indicated beta availability for the new agent capabilities in the first quarter of calendar 2027, subject to change, and general availability for Agent Observability with Splunk in December 2026. The practical meaning is that your first agent pilot is likely a 2027 project. That is useful: you have a quarter or more to prepare the controls that decide whether a pilot is safe.

What should IT teams govern before agents join the meeting?

An agent in a meeting can read what the room reads and act on what it is allowed to touch, so the questions are about access and approval. Settle these five before a pilot:

  • Data scope. Which spaces, files, and connected applications can an agent read?
  • Action limits. Which actions require a named human to approve, such as sending external messages or changing a document?
  • Identity. How is each agent identified, and which account owns its permissions?
  • Logging. Where is agent activity recorded, and who reviews it?
  • Exit plan. How do you revoke an agent’s access quickly if it misbehaves?

Cisco says its AI Agent 360 approach combines AI Defense and Splunk observability to give visibility into agent behavior. Whatever tooling you use, the policy decisions belong to your organization. The same discipline applies to other assistants, as our post on Copilot Autopilot explains.

How can INVITE help?

INVITE is a Cisco partner delivering networking and collaboration for organizations in Salt Lake City, Phoenix, and the Mountain West, and the same team also supports 8×8. That vendor range lets INVITE compare platforms against your requirements instead of pushing one. Frequently Asked Questions

Are Webex AI agents available now?
Not broadly. Cisco has indicated beta availability in the first quarter of 2027, with timing subject to change.

Does RoomOS 27 work with Microsoft Teams and Zoom?
Yes. Cisco says RoomOS 27 supports Webex, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and Google Meet on the same room devices.

What is the biggest risk of AI agents in meetings?
Over-broad access. An agent that can read many spaces and apps can expose data it was never meant to reach, so limit scope and require approval for sensitive actions.

Should a mid-market company pilot agents now?
Prepare now, pilot when features reach beta. Write the access and approval policy first.
